Ventriloquist In Training CertificationVIT is a conference-based training program offered to anyone interested in learning ventriloquism from the basics to performing professionally. This three-level certified program has requirements which can be completed at I-Fest along with performances scheduled by each ventriloquist. The Basic Level was introduced in 2001. The second step Performer Level was introduced to attendees at I-Fest 2002. The third level of certification called Elite Professional, was introduced I-Fest 2003. Below are the requirements for each level. We encourage you to take advantage of this excellent tool for developing and perfecting your ventriloquism art.
Level One - Introduction
This level is almost entirely attending classes where you are exposed to the basic skills of ventriloquism. You are an attendee of various lectures and demonstrations by a variety of talented vent performers and teachers. To begin this level, you must pay a registration fee which includes a three (3) session introduction course. Following that you must complete these requirements:
Attend:
• 3 classes on basic vent skill (taught by a least two different instructors)
• 1 class on philosophy of ministry in ventriloquism
• 1 class on figure manipulation
• 1 class on writing vent routines
• 1 class on vent resources
• 1 class on care of vent tools
• Attendance at 5 vent performances or competitions (making your own personal notes)
• Participation in the vent showcase or a competition
Level Two - Performer
In level two you will concentrate on performing both at I-Fest and in your local area. Registration for this level includes a fee. This level cannot be completed in one week since it requires you to complete and document actual performances throughout the year or more following your entry into this level.
To achieve this certificate, the candidate must demonstrate his or her ongoing performance skills in ventriloquism. The following are requirements:
Attend:
• 1 class on polishing the hard letters from basic vent
• 2 classes on drama/improvisation with the vent taking part in performance in 1 class
• 2 classes on showmanship or stage presence
• 2 classes on developing character voices (taught by 2 different instructors)
• 1 class on goal setting for your vent performing
• 1 class on history of ventriloquism
• 1 class on communication/speaking skills
• Participation in one of the vent competitions at I-Fest
• Completion of a performance scrapbook for 12 paid performances away from I-Fest
Level Three - Elite Professional
This top level will undoubtedly take several years to complete. It has sufficient challenges to make it highly desirable to attain, but also quite difficult to complete. There will be a registration fee for this level to cover the many management costs for assisting you. It is our intent to make this level only possible to those who are quite serious about the art of ventriloquism and therefore motivated to the highest level of professionalism and excellence in their vent and speaking performances. The following are requirements:
Attend:
• At least four I-Fest Conferences (not necessarily consecutive)
• 2 classes for advanced special vent skills (distant or phone voice, two or more characters, etc.)
• 2 classes on promotion and marketing your vent act
• 1 class on ventriloquism in the Christian marketplace
• 1 class on professional vent ethics
• 4 hours hands-on class writing lab for professional vents
• A publicity packet must be submitted for the ventriloquist
• Professional program outline must be submitted for a 45-90 minute presentation
• Compete and be a winner in one of the vent competitions at I-Fest
• Video tape of actual performance (30-45 minutes in length)
• Packet of professional forms submitted (performance agreement, form letter to client, etc.)
• Evaluation Forms completed by clients served over a 3 year period which meet superior standards
